6 Day The Red Centre Gateway Tour's itinerary is:
Day 1 - Arrive Alice Springs
Free time to explore the Alice. Overnight: Alice Springs Resort - Standard Hotel.
Day 2 - Gosse Bluff/Mereenie Wilderness
Avoiding the crowds, we travel along Larapinta Drive to Wallace Rockhole, an aboriginal community and join the rock art tour. Lunch en route (own expense) Explore Gosse Bluff (Tnorala), a comet impact crater 130 million years old. Learn of it’s aboriginal significance in this unique natural environment. Further to the south we cross through Katapata Gap and the Mereenie Wilderness Area to the top of the jump-up, where we have an uninterrupted view of the George Gill Range and Carmichaels’ Crag. Overnight: Kings Canyon Resort - Standard Hotel.
Day 3 - Kings Canyon/ Ayers Rock
This morning a climb to the rim of Kings Canyon, with time to explore the Garden of Eden, wonder at the exquisite environment of the George Gill Range. Enroute through vast cattle stations to Yulara we stop at Mt Connor Lookout (often mistaken for Ayers Rock). After lunch we visit the Uluru - Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, before an informative base tour of Ayers Rock (Uluru), including Mutitjulu and Kantju Gorge before enjoying a champagne sunset overlooking Uluru Overnight: Ayers Rock Resort - Lost Camel or Similar.
Day 4 -The Olgas/ Alice Springs
Early morning we head off to the west to explore The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) in the serenity of the cool morning air, returning to Yulara in time to explore the resort before lunch (own expense), lunch time sees our departure from the resort for our return journey to Alice Springs.
Day 5 - Palm Valley
Explore the Finke Gorge National Park and Palm Valley Enjoy a leisurely stroll along Palm Creek absorbing the ambience of this desert oasis. A more vigorous option is a climb to the top of the valley walls. Cycad Gorge offers an impressive cliff display of these rare plants, Kalarranga Lookout affords an impressive view of the amphitheatre, a site of signifi cance for the local Aranda Tribe. Hermannsburg is our next stop, time to explore this historical mission and stroll amongst the buildings in awe at the achievements in a hostile environment. Tour the gallery of the famous water colour artists of Hermannsburg. View the works of the father of this watercolour art style Albert Namatjira. Purchase genuine works of art and artefacts of the sons and daughters of Hermannsburg. Return to Alice Springs late afternoon. Overnight: Alice Springs Resort - Standard Hotel.
Day 6 - West MacDonnell Ranges
A day of spectacular mountain scenery, wildlife and waterholes. Visit Flynn’s Grave, view The Twin Gums painted by Albert Namatjira a famous aboriginal water colour artist. Explore Standley Chasm a rare geological formation of two opposing red rock faces. The Ochre Pits are a significant traditional source of ochre for ceremonies as we gain a panoramic view of the beginning of one of the oldest rivers in the world at the Finke River Lookout. Swim in an outback waterhole at Ellery Creek and explore Ormiston Gorge a permanent waterhole set amongst deep ravines and peaked mountains and have a beer in the pub at Glen Helen before returning to the Alice via Simpsons Gap.
