Our final destination: Melbourne. Enjoy the Classic Coast Tour with Wayward Bus, going to the vineyards around Langhorne Creek, travelling to the Coorong National Park amongst the sand dunes, lakes, and wildlife. On the second day we will walk down into Umpherstone Cave! Wake up at the Tower Hill volcanic crater and lake - where koalas, kangaroos and emus roam free. Day 1 - Adelaide to Robe
From Adelaide to the German-settled village of Hahndorf and the vineyards around Langhorne Creek. Cross the Murray River with views of Lakes Alexandrina and Albert. The Coorong Wilderness Lodge is a project of local Aboriginal people. Our hosts offer an Aboriginal ‘Bush Foods and Medicines’ walk and prepare lunch ($20 direct payment), featuring local ingredients. The trip takes us into Coorong National Park amongst the sand dunes, lakes, and wildlife. Hike up the dunes. The seaside town of Robe overnight. (D*).
Day 2 - Robe to Port Fairy
A cliff-top walk along the craggy coastline of Canunda National Park. Ponds, caves and underground rivers honeycomb the Mt Gambier region and the Blue Lake! Walk down into Umpherstone Cave. We’ll visit spectacular Cape Bridgewater and Bay where a local, Joe, runs a zodiac boat to seal colonies under the Cape, a total adventure for about $30. Overnight at Port Fairy. (BD*).
Day 3 - Port Fairy to Melbourne
Morning is best at Tower Hill volcanic crater and lake - where koalas, kangaroos and emus roam free. Now the Great Ocean Road: Bay of Islands, Bay of Martyrs, the Grotto and London Bridge. We’ll take a break at Port Campbell then to Loch Ard Gorge for walks, lookouts, beaches, and caves, before visiting the 12 Apostles. Climb into the lush Otway Ranges, and walk through rainforest to river cascades. Descending into Apollo Bay, and Lorne, a classic seaside resort, before Bell’s Beach, the world famous surf spot. Arrive into Melbourne. (B*).
